CANSA Partnering with Provincial Departments of Health to Fight Cancer

CANSA’s Advocacy team regularly lobbies and engages with the Departments of Health and aims to establish partnerships with key National and Provincial stakeholders. CANSA advocates for the training of Primary Health Professional Care Workers on the top five cancers for men and women prevalent in SA. This will help with the early detection of cancer in the Primary Health settings and early access to cancer treatment.  The focus is mainly with the Provincial Departments of Health, and our CANSA Service team implement the activities in the provinces. To date, four Provincial Departments of Health have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CANSA:  Northern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga.  Work continues to engage with the remaining provinces…

Helping Young Cancer Survivors Celebrate Life

In June, as part of International Cancer Survivors’ month, CANSA celebrates all cancer survivors and salutes their perseverance, with the focus on children, teens, young adults and parents or guardians. Each cancer diagnosis can impact a patient and their loved ones negatively, and CANSA provides the practical and emotional support they need throughout cancer treatment. Receiving a diagnosis as an adult is difficult, but even more so when it’s a child or teenager and it is especially hard on parents of paediatric patients. When a child or teenager is diagnosed with cancer, CANSA TLC offers support to sustain paediatric patients, parents and loved ones as they face their worst fear…

CANSA Shavathon: 20 Years of Solidarity with Cancer Survivors

It’s that time of the year to shave, spray and donate at the CANSA 20th annual Shavathon fundraising event taking place, at various shopping centres across South Africa, on Saturday 25 February 2023, with certain venues also hosting events on Sunday, 26 February 2023. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Shavathon is one of the highlights on the CANSA calendar bringing families, friends and colleagues together in solidarity with cancer survivors. We would love to be able to provide our volunteers with the tools they need to operate within their communities – be it with a laptop, smartphone, training and upskilling on computer software and social media platforms or assistance with mobile data so that they can, optimally, continue with their work for CANSA. We’re operating with a business model that relies on technology and it’s important for volunteers to be able to attend meetings, training, and supervision sessions online.
