Give 67 Minutes of Hope: Support CANSA Charity Shops this Mandela Day

Afrikaanse Media Vrystelling

Sound Bites

8 July 2025 – As South Africans prepare to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela on 18 July, the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is calling on the public to make their 67 Minutes count by supporting CANSA’s Charity Shops across the country.

This Mandela Month, CANSA invites individuals, families, schools, businesses, and community groups to participate in the ‘67 Minutes for CANSA’ campaign by donating quality goods (such as clothing – especially men’s and children’s clothes, household items, books, working appliances or foldable tables), volunteering time to help sort and organise stock and shopping at CANSA Charity Shops to support a meaningful cause.

CANSA Charity Shops are located in Pretoria (Gauteng); Mbombela (Mpumalanga); Durban (KwaZulu-Natal); Bloemfontein (Free State) and George (Western Cape).

“Our CANSA Charity Shops are more than just places to buy or donate — they are lifelines,” says Makoma Raolane, CANSA Sustainability Manager.

“The funds raised through these shops directly support CANSA’s care and support programmes for cancer patients and their families. By donating or shopping, you’re helping us offer transport and accommodation to our Care Home patients living far from treatment centres, free counselling and vital support to those fighting cancer.”

South Africans are encouraged to take up the 67 Minutes for CANSA challenge as a way to give back and stand in solidarity with cancer patients. Every donation, volunteer hour, or purchase contributes to creating a caring and resilient community.

“This is a simple yet powerful way for communities across South Africa to get involved. You can make a difference by clearing out your cupboards, volunteering your time, or choosing to buy second-hand with a purpose,” adds Raolane.

How to Get Involved:

  • Drop off donations at your nearest CANSA Charity Shop
  • Arrange a donation drive at your workplace, school, or community organisation
  • Volunteer on or around Mandela Day to help in-store
  • Share the campaign on social media and encourage others to support

“Perhaps you are working full time and you’re not able to give of your time to assist with the Charity Shops project, so we invite you to make an online donation towards the upkeep of our CANSA services to ensure we can continue providing care and support.
