Men Tackling Prostate Cancer Together
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men globally and the number one cancer affecting all South African men (National Cancer Registry 2017), with 1 in 17 men being at risk for diagnosis in their lifetime. International and local research indicates that the risk for aggressive prostate cancer is higher in black African men. * It’s vital to note that prostate cancer tends to run in families. CANSA encourages men to get to know their family history of cancer and symptoms, not delaying age-appropriate prostate screening, as many men die unnecessarily from the disease due to late diagnosis.

Cancer Survivor Cycles and Runs for CANSA
On 17 September, cancer survivor, Richard Lomax, sets out on his incredible journey of cycling from Johannesburg to Cape Town in support of Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA)’s 90th anniversary. Communities to Act on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)
This Global Week for Action on NCDs (6 – 12 September 2021), the South African Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance (SANCDA), of which the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is a founding partner, celebrate the progress made in raising the profile of people living with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in SA. CANSA Highlights the Importance of Lung Cancer Awareness
World Lung Cancer Day is observed on 1 August to raise awareness about the causes and treatment of lung cancer, and to support those affected by the disease. Lung cancer accounted for over 2,2 million new cases and 1 796 144 deaths worldwide in 2020 (Globocan 2020) making it the most fatal cancer globally. It’s in the top five most frequent cancers in SA excluding non-melanoma skin cancer in 2020 (Globocan 2020). The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) has partnered with the University of KwaZulu-Natal in a bid to raise much needed awareness about lung cancer in several KZN communities.
