Joy of Movement With Nia For CANSA

10 August 2022Nia Africa are celebrating Women’s Month, with its ‘Joy of Movement’ campaign in aid of CANSA, by hosting special Nia classes every Saturday during August. The aim is to raise funds for CANSA and create awareness around how regular exercise and physical activity plays a major role in leading a balanced lifestyle, which reduces the risk of cancer.

Although viewed as a non-traditional form of exercise, Nia offers both cardiovascular and whole-body conditioning through its programme, which incorporates elements from dance, martial art, healing arts and culminates in a workout that is adaptable for all ages and fitness levels.

“At Nia, we believe every person can discover, explore, unleash, and enhance their individual potential to live a healthy and meaningful life by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies. Nia is based on the intelligent design of the body. Each workout combines mindfulness and dynamic movement – leaving you energised, mentally clear, and emotionally balanced,” says Mia Steyn, Nia Certified Instructor.

Proceeds from the campaign will be donated to CANSA to help promote cancer awareness, through health campaigns and educate regarding the importance of early detection of cancer, through community screenings at CANSA Care Centres across South Africa. CANSA also makes use of funds to develop and promote tools such as the Lifestyle Risk Assessment Tool, that educates the public on how to lower their cancer risk and live a balanced lifestyle.

CANSA is also committed to connecting people facing cancer with information, day-to-day help as well as the care and support they need in the communities where they live so that cancer Survivors and their loved ones don’t have to face cancer alone by having support through every step of their cancer journey.

Tickets can be bought via Quicket for R85 per person and classes will take place at selected venues in Gauteng and the Western Cape, with most classes having an on-line streaming option as in-studio classes have limited space available.
