Om die viering van die 20ste bestaansjaar van Wêreld Kankerdag te herdenk, het die UICC versoek dat ‘n wêreldwye opname gedoen moet word on inligting in te win om aktuele data in te win aangaande die publiek se ervarings, standpunte, sienings en gedrag om sake rakende kanker te monitor. Hierdie opname is hanteer, uitgevoer en gereguleer deur Ipsos (‘n onafhanklike maatskappy wat marknavorsing doen). Die marknavorsing is in 20 lande (wat Suid-Afrika insluit) wêreldwyd gedoen en nagenoeg 15 000 volwassenes is betrek met die opname. Dit is die eerste openbare opname oor persepsies oor kanker wat in ‘n dekade aangepak is.
