Where there is a Will there is a Way – and a Wig!

When #lockdown was first announced we knew that there would be certain limitations to the work that CANSA could, physically, continue with – such as supplying wigs to patients in need – however thanks to an incredible team effort, we were able to put a smile on a little patient’s face when she received her new wig during lockdown.

Usually patients make an appointment to come to our CANSA Care Centres to choose a wig, but as this was not possible, Cisca Loggenberg, one of our service staff members in Pretoria, effortlessly rose up to the challenge to help her 11-year old patient diagnosed (with Ewings Sarcoma) and who is still undergoing chemotherapy, obtain a wig by way of video consultations with our wigmaker, Rani Chetty, and Lucinda Carter.

While still working remotely, Lucinda and Cisca ironed out all the finer details behind the scenes before Rani started with the wig making process. Globeflight Worldwide Express SA Pty Ltd couriers assisted in collecting the wig from Rani and on Monday, 18 May 2020 our patient received her new wig. Lucinda had a video call with her parents, and Cisca, to help them with pointers on how to handle the wig and she was happy to let us know that “the little girl is over the moon and the wig fits perfectly. She is smiling and it warms a person’s heart”.

A huge thank you to our team for going the extra mile to bring such joy to our patient in this way. Your efforts are a true testament of the dedication and care that you bring to CANSA, and our communities, daily.
