Research Projects

CANSA is one of the few publicly funded organisations in South Africa with sustainable funding dedicated to cancer research.

Research funding is currently allocated across two complementary research funding streams:

1. Larger-Scale Institutional Research

This funding stream supports high-impact, investigator-led cancer research conducted by MBChB and PhD-level researchers at accredited South African universities and research organisations.

Projects focus on advancing scientific knowledge, clinical innovation, and improved cancer outcomes across the cancer continuum. Read more.

2. Applied Cancer Research

The Applied Cancer Research funding stream supports applied, practice-informed cancer research that contributes directly to improved cancer prevention, early detection, patient care, survivorship, and advocacy in South Africa.

This stream primarily supports postgraduate student research conducted under supervision at accredited host institutions.
