CANSA Head of Research serves as a Member on the AWACAN-ED Steering Group
AWACAN-ED (African aWAreness of CANcer & Early Diagnosis) is an NIHR-funded Global Health Research Group focussing on Advancing Early Diagnosis of Cancer in Southern Africa.
The Health Systems Trust announced the release of the South African Health Review (SAHR) 2023, which focuses on “Strengthening Cancer Services in South Africa”. Jane Harries CANSA Head of Research, is a co-author of an article in the 2023 SAHR titled: Mapping local evidence on early recognition and management of people with potential cancer symptoms: a narrative review. The study aims to advance early cancer diagnosis in Southern Africa by developing and evaluating electronic tools (e-Tools) to improve care-seeking and reduce healthcare delays in Zimbabwe and South Africa. The focus is on cervical and breast cancer in women and colorectal cancer in men and women, as these are common cancers that have relatively easy methods for detection and treatment, especially in the early stages.
