Liver cancer research – Prof Michael Kew

Liver cancer is infection-related cancer that is common especially in the developing world. Thanks to the work of South African scientist Professor Michael Kew, who has been funded by CANSA Research for over 30 years, a link between Hepatitis B and liver cancer was discovered, followed by a vaccine. The vaccine has been incorporated into the government’s infant immunisation programme and is saving lives.
