Graduates Emerging from CANSA-Funded Projects

Building Research Capacity
CANSA recognises the importance of developing the next generation of cancer researchers to advance cancer research in South Africa. Where appropriate, Larger-Scale Research grants support postgraduate and post-doctoral students working under the supervision of the principal investigator and grant holder.
CANSA also supports emerging researchers through Applied Cancer Research grants, helping to strengthen research capacity across a broader range of cancer research projects.
During the 2024/2025 financial year, CANSA-supported Larger-Scale Research projects achieved significant academic and research outcomes:
- One PhD and one Master of Public Health degree were awarded to students from the University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand, respectively.
- Four PhD candidates and nine additional researchers contributed to these projects, all supported through CANSA research funding.
These achievements reflect CANSA’s ongoing commitment to developing research talent, strengthening cancer research capacity, and supporting the future of cancer research in South Africa.
