How Referrals to CANSA TLC Work
CANSA and CANSA TLC staff are committed to connecting families facing cancer with information, day-to-day help as well as emotional support they need in the communities where they live. Our aim is to ensure that cancer Survivors (paediatric / teen patients) and their loved ones don’t have to face cancer alone; we’re here to support them through every step of their cancer journey. We also help children cope with a sibling or parent’s cancer diagnosis.*
* CANSA is not aware of all children / teens diagnosed with cancer, since they go to various paediatric oncology treatment centres across the country and CANSA is not provided with any information in this regard from treatment facilities. We rely on parents / guardians or loved ones to contact us directly for support.
*Although we make regular contact in some identified paediatric oncology wards where we have full time volunteer and staff support, we invite all oncology parents and / or legal guardians to contact us in order to contact us and become part of our Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) support groups and to benefit from our TLC services.
*Any friends or family members of parents / guardians with a newly diagnosed child / teen are welcome to share our information and to refer parents / guardians to us for support. This includes when a parent or sibling is diagnosed with cancer and a child / teen needs support. Please note that we may not contact anyone without their consent, so please ensure we have permission to contact them.
*All parents / guardians / loved ones of children / teens with cancer are welcome to join the CANSA TLC – Childhood Cancer Support Facebook group for support.
