Trained CANSA volunteers provide information to cancer patients at government hospitals through the CANSA Information and Support Desks service, once per week, to help them cope with the physical and emotional demands of cancer treatment.
Depending on their needs patients, caregivers and loved ones are referred to CANSA’s free support groups, and Tele / Virtual Counselling service (available in most SA languages) for psychosocial support, to our Advocacy department or a clinical nurse if they are battling with pain or side effects of treatment – these services are also free of charge.
Knitted Knockers breast prostheses are made available at no charge, and referrals for wigs and headwear, stoma related services and medical equipment hire, are actioned.
Leaflets regarding the symptoms of the top 5 cancers affecting men and women in SA, are displayed to create awareness.
CANSA works to build a relationship with public hospitals and is aiming to expand this service over time.
If you would like to help grow this service, as CANSA would like to expand it to other public hospitals, CANSA needs desks, chairs and printed material costs covered by local sponsors.
