Participants Needed for Research Study: Cervical Cancer
Are you a Black African woman diagnosed with cervical cancer?
Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University invites Black African women to take part in a study exploring how they recognise and respond to cervical cancer symptoms.
Study Title
Psychosocial Factors Influencing Symptom Appraisal and Help-Seeking Behaviour of Black African Women in Their Diagnostic Pathway to Cervical Cancer.
About the Study
This study aims to understand the thoughts, emotions, and cultural beliefs that influence how women identify symptoms and decide to seek medical care for cervical cancer.
Who Can Participate
You may be eligible if you:
- Identify as a Black African woman
- Are aged 18 or older
- Live in Gauteng Province, South Africa
- Have been diagnosed with cervical cancer (any stage)
- Can speak English and/or Setswana
Why Participate?

- Share your story to help improve healthcare for other women
- Help researchers understand the barriers and challenges faced by Black African women with cervical cancer
- Contribute to the development of culturally sensitive health promotion strategies
This study is part of a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and was approved by the Sefako Makgatho University Research Ethics Committee (SMUREC) (SMUREC/M/451/2025-PG).
