Lesang works for CANSA as a Community Mobiliser

Lesang left her life in the corporate world, because she felt that she was not growing. She longed to do something with her life that made her feel fulfilled.

She has chosen to work with cancer patients and in her community to raise awareness re cancer & help promote early detection. She hopes to challenge myths & stigmas in her community around female cancers especially.

Excerpts from Lesang’s Story in True Love

“Cancer has also affected my own life. After working for CANSA for just a year as a Community Mobiliser, my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I’d already educated my family about it and she was in the 1st stage…”

I had a breast cancer scare myself last year. I was doing a self-examination and found a lump. Fortunately, there was no cause for alarm. However, I always tell people that ‘you know your body best’. It’s not taboo to touch yourself. Doing a self-examination at least once a month is crucial.”
