Kimberley to Kilimanjaro for CANSA 2021

01 March 2021: From 3 to 10 March 2021, three extraordinary ladies, from the small city of Kimberley, will climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and in honour of cancer patients, especially children, who face their own daily battles with the disease as well as raising awareness of the severity of Gender-Based Violence within South Africa.

Sisters, Dineo Kumalo and Carey Moraldi, along with Dineo’s best friend Karabelo Mojanaga, are the three intrepid ladies who will be taking on Mount Kilimanjaro. The ladies spent most of 2020 researching, saving and training for this adventure, which included five-to-eight-kilometre daily runs, laps in the pool and five-to-seven-hour hikes over weekends.

Carey Moraldi explains, “Dineo came up with this idea two years ago, but Karabelo and I were not sold on this. However, she did not give up and her persistence paid off – we are doing this!”.

“The motivation behind the climb is to provide hope, inspiration and to reiterate the fact that greatness comes from within. If you remember that you are not limited by anything in this world, you can overcome and conquer your greatest mountains. Dineo and I have also personally been touched by cancer having lost our grandmother, mother and little sister, at the age of 14, to the disease,” added Moraldi.

For the team, the most important part of this journey is the greater cause behind it. They are challenging corporates, businesspeople and whoever is willing and interested to sponsor R100 or more, for each of them per kilometre that they climb. The funds raised will be donated to CANSA to assist with their ongoing work of care and support for those affected by cancer.
