CANSA Helps Jamiel Fulfil his Dream Bike Ride
During the CANSA Liaison Committee meeting on 4 March 2020, the Patient Coordinator of Villiersdorp, “Tannie Marie Boers” informed us about the prognosis of Jamiel Brett, a CANSA TLC patient that is in the CANSA Care Room at Vrederus old age home, Villiersdorp.
She asked him what his dream was, and he responded that he wants to ride on a motorbike. The Divisional Coordinator for CANSA Boland Overberg, Gretchen Minnaar contacted Anthea Lewis, TLC coordinator for the Western Cape and asked for assistance. Thanks to Anthea, she coordinated Jamiel Brett’s wish in just 3 days.
The Universal Biker Club responded to Anthea’s request for assistance, everything was in place, but unfortunately Jamiel’s cancer journey ended before he could get his ride on the bike. Jamiel passed on the same day that his dream ride was scheduled.
The Universal Biker Club formed a guard of honor for Jamiel and fulfilled his dream ride by escorting his “body” to his granny’s house.
We are thankful to the biker community for their support, the words – “hold on Jamiel, we are coming to honour your wish” indicated their willingness, love and support for this boy.
A big thank you to our CANSA Volunteers from Villiersdorp, Tannie Marie Boers who was like a second mom to Jamiel, thank you for the love, care and support during his cancer journey. Farewell Jamiel…
