Cancer – Overcoming the Unimaginable

Marcelle D’Allende, stage 4 lung cancer patient, believes that cancer Survivors are responsible for their own well-being, whether it is physical, mental or spiritual.

Which “take-away” points resonate with you?

Her ‘Take Away Points’ include:

A strong, resilient mind will help you overcome difficulties (mental health counts)

Cancer does not define who you are – guide your loved ones to look past your illness

The healing journey is about more than treatment, it is about rediscovering life

Find solace in small but powerful rituals (acts of self-care like gentle walks, reading and listening to music)

Establish emotional and social boundaries – this helps you support yourself and provides others with positive rules of engagement during a difficult time

Redirect uncertainty and fear to uplifting thoughts – focus on the positive, stay hopeful

Make space for joy – engage in activities that make you feel alive and present

Don’t go it alone – take advantage of CANSA’s support services to encourage you and your loved ones
