Breast Cancer Survivor Busisiwe Feels Blessed by Support from CANSA

Busiswe Mahlangu

I am Busisiwe Johannah Mahlangu, everyone knows me as Busi.

I would like to share my story and thank the CANSA Emalahleni (Witbank) Care Centre for walking the journey with me.

I started being sick in February 2014. I didn’t keep quiet about my sickness, I spoke with our marketing manager at Middelburg Mall, Mrs. Annelize Erwee and shared my story with her, that the doctors were saying I am developing breast cancer.

After I found out that my tests came back positive and breast cancer was diagnosed, Mrs. Erwee told me about CANSA. Mrs. Erwee shared with me that the local CANSA office is situated in Emalahleni (Witbank).

I soon went to visit CANSA, where I found the warmest welcome and the staff became my second family.

My situation was discussed and an immediate referral was made to Dr. Jekel, who then referred me to the Kalafong Hospital, where I had a mastectomy done. After my operation I went back to my “Family” at the CANSA Witbank Office to show them my progress!

I received the best counselling and inspiration, I was well educated with pamphlets and an inspirational quote book. I was also helped with a bag to assist me with my drainage, a beautiful bra and prosthesis was donated to me – this was a huge gift! I really felt blessed.

With every visit or call I was inspired by the warmth and friendliness of the staff of CANSA, and I am truly thankful for all the tips on how to live my life with the disease called cancer.

During the entire process my husband left me, but this did not put me back in life, as I had so much to live for. My “Family” at CANSA Emalahleni (Witbank) even arranged a platform for me to interact with other breast cancer Survivors (patients), through their events and support meetings for Survivors.

One word best describing me, Busisiwe Johanna Mahlangu (Busi), is “blessed”.

THANK YOU CANSA Emalahleni (Witbank)!
