CANSA Partnering in KZN “Umdlavusa Pap Smear Drive” taking place in April 2018

The South African Society of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (SASOG) wholeheartedly supported the KZN-DOH and UKZN’s launch of the “Umdlavusa Pap Smear Drive” on the 7th March 2018, at the 38th National Congress of SASOG, themed “Advocating Equitable Access to Women’s Health”, and wished them well in this effort to ensure that no woman dies of cancer of the cervix, which is a preventable disease.

Dedicated Screening Days in April

UKZN and KZN-DOH have partnered with CANSA to promote awareness of cervical cancer and how to prevent it, as well as to increase screening coverage throughout the province in the month of April.

This will culminate in a dedicated screening day on the 20th April 2018 (in all health facilities offering maternity services in the province), and, for women residing in Ethekwini, a mass screening event will take place on the 21st April 2018 at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital.

All eligible* women are urged to present themselves and / or encourage others to come for screening (*eligible = any woman who has never had a pap smear. or has not had one in the last 10 years and is 30 years old or over – if HIV infected, any woman with no previous smear, irrespective of age, or who has not had a smear in the last three years)
