My aunt passed away in March this year after years of battling with cancer. She had beaten breast cancer about 10 years ago but about 2 years later, she started feeling pain again and, concerned she went to her doctor on several occasions. He kept telling her that there was no sign of cancer. When she finally decided to go to another doctor, not only did she find out she did have cancer but it has spread to where there was not much they could do for her. If her cancer ad been detected earlier, heand might’ve had a fighting chance. I watched her suffer and her death has been extremely hard on our family. I would just like to urge people that if they go to a doctor with these concerns, please ALWAYS get a second opinion from another doctor, no matter the diagnoses (or lack of) from the other doctor.

Chené, I’m so sorry that you had to lose your aunt in this way, and thank you for posting this message to raise awareness of the importance of listening to your own body and seeking a second or third opinion if necessary. Please let me know if I can put you or your family in touch with a CANSA counsellor to help you through this very difficult time.
