Research Study – Investigating the Psychosocial Needs of Breast Cancer Survivors in a Low-resource Setting
The College of Humanities at the University of KwaZulu-Natal invites eligible breast cancer survivors living in KwaZulu-Natal, aged 27 to 80 years, to participate in a research study entitled Investigating the Psychosocial Needs of Breast Cancer Survivors in a Low-Resource Setting: An Exploratory Study. This study forms part of a Master’s degree research project. Participants will help improve mental healthcare for breast cancer survivorship in South Africa. Download the study advertisement here.
Who can participate?
Participation is open to breast cancer survivors who:
- Have used services at the CANSA Care Home Centre in Durban
- Completed breast cancer treatment more than 6 months ago
- Are willing to share their experiences in a 45–60 minute interview (online or in person)
All interviews will be conducted in a safe, private, and supportive environment.

The closing date for the recruitment of participants is 30 November 2025. Interviews will be conducted between 1 November and 31 December 2025, subject to participants’ availability.
The study has received full ethical approval from the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Approval No: UKZN RIG HSSREC/00008867/ 2025).
