Pink Trees for Pauline Benefits CANSA’s Cancer Patients for 6th Year
5 August 2024 – Soon it will be time for pink euphoria to hit the country and for trees to be transformed into pink statements to celebrate the 12th year of Pink Trees for Pauline that is making a difference in the needs of cancer communities in South Africa.
Every year during October numerous towns countrywide use hundreds of metres of pink material to transform their trees into pink masterpieces. These visual statements ring the message of hope for many cancer survivors.
‘’When you dream another’s dream instead of doing your own thing, Maybe you sing a different song and become more of what the world needs.’’
With these words Adri Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen, Managing Director of Pink Trees for Pauline captured the essence of the association in a song that has become the anthem of this charity.
“Making a difference in cancer communities across the country has been our core mission since our inception in 2012. With the added assistance of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) over the last six years, we are able to raise more funds for care and support programmes. It’s a real testimony to the South African spirit of resilience, strength, and tenacity,” says Van Nieuwenhuizen.
According to Gerda Strauss of CANSA they use the money generated by Pink Trees for Pauline mostly to empower families to take care of palliative patients at home, to buy medical equipment and supply food parcels to needy patients identified by social workers.
Pink Trees for Pauline believes in partnerships and hats off to Triton Express that has been transporting material and other items free of charge to all corners of the country.
